ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL
IN GUITAR TECHNIQUES!

Dave and Murray Return to Cambridge's LaRaza 17 December 9pm!

After helping kick off the Christmas holidays, Dave and Murray return to Cambridge's LaRaza club on Wednesday 17 December for an evening of their special brand of acoustic soul to warm everyone's holiday spirits! Dave Transcribes Another Brick in the Wall for Guitar Techniques Magazine!

Dave has long been a favourite columnist of Guitar Techniques' Readers, but his heavy road schedule the past two years have allowed him to contribute just sporadically. The magazine decided to take advantage of his time on the road with the Roger Waters Band and the issue which hit the newsstands on 4th of December features his transcription of Another Brick in the Wall.

EDITOR NEVILLE MARTEN WROTE IN HIS BLOG:

Roger Waters' guitarist tabs Another Brick In The Wall for Guitar Techniques!

Dave Kilminster is a phenomenal guitarist. He's been writing for Guitar
Techniques since it began back in 1994 but he's also been a member of Pink
Floyd bassist Roger Waters' touring band for the past two years.

During that time he's played Another Brick In The Wall (and David Gilmour's
fabulous solos) dozens of times to massive audiences around the world. Dave has done a brilliantly accurate job of tabbing the track, with every nuance correctly notated.

If you want to learn Another Brick from probably the best tab ever, then
there's no better place to go than this month's Guitar Techniques Don't miss it; it's on sale now!

Happy Holidays from Everyone at DaveKilminster.com!!!

Whatever you celebrate, wherever you are, we wish you all a peaceful and joyful holiday season. If you enjoy giving the gift of music, we can help you with your last minute shopping either at www.davekilminster.com or through iTunes. We hope you and your loved ones have a lovely holiday and a wonderful new year. We look forward to many exciting things to come.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM DAVE!

REGARDING THE POSTPONEMENT OF MUMBAI
LIVE EARTH CONCERT, ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED
FOR DECEMBER 7TH!

I was greatly saddened to learn of the recent atrocities committed in Mumbai last week...

And as a result of those terrorists activities, the organisers have decided to cancel the projected 'Live Earth' concert scheduled for next weekend...

It's understandable, considering the chaos the present situation has created... and also the potential danger to music fans, festival workers and the artists themselves... but I really hate the fact that such mindless violence has not only caused such pain, suffering and heartache to thousands of people... but also disrupted an event for such a worthy cause.

I very much hope that the concert will be rescheduled for sometime in the near future... after all, this senseless fighting over religion/land/whatever won't really be possible when we're all extinct!!!

- Dave Kilminster, 1 December 2008

November 24, 2008

Dave is honoured to be joining Roger Waters once again in supporting Live Earth on December 7th in Mumbai India!
The Giants Stadium concert (where Roger and Dave played to more than two billion people, almost a third the world's population!) was one
of many around the world; this is a special, one country event, which may be seen on satellite
VIA the STAR Network or via internet
videostream on MSN.com. We hope you will
join us and the world in viewing and supporting
Live Earth. For more information:

Here is what the Guitar Break folks have to say:
FREE copy of Dave Kilminster's album 'Scarlet'

If you haven't booked your place on Dave Kilminster's Blues Rock weekend yet then why not? Not only will it be one of the most amazing guitar experiences you will ever have but we will give
you a FREE copy of Dave's latest album 'Scarlet'.

Joined by Neville Marten & Jason Sidwell, this is truly one weekend not to miss. It's the only tutorial weekend that Dave is doing this year and only
Guitar Break can offer this. Due to Dave's tour commitments with Roger Waters his time in this here green land of ours is short. Last year we were lucky enough to secure his talents between world tours and he is due to jet off again for another tour so it's your one and only chance.

Of course, you don't have to meet Dave and learn guitar from him at a Guitar Break weekend to get a copy of his albums! You can get all of his albums at www.davekilminster.com. Just click on "shop". Scarlet is also available internationally at many fine retailers and on the internet. Check out www.amazon.co.uk, amazon.com and iTunes to name a few.

Dave Kilminster Weekend - Blues/Prog Rock 2/3
Highgate House, Northampton

Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 November 2008, 10-5pm

We are delighted to present Dave Kilminster for yet another Blues & Prog Rock masterclass whilst in between his world tour with Roger Waters. Almost a year on from his last Guitar Break you can only expect another jaw-dropping weekend.

Course costs:
£375, to include 2 full days tuition, lunch, all day refreshments and Saturday evening meal. Deposits of £50 (non-refundable) and full payments are currently being taken to secure places. See GuitarBreak.com for details or call 0845 458 7372.

If Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Rush and Dream Theatre styled rock is your thing with a healthy dose of blues added Guitar Break has a weekend course just for you! Alongside player/tutors Neville Marten and Jason Sidwell, Dave Kilminster will be the guest tutor for the Blues and Prog Rock weekend course.

Having completed another tour with Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Dave K will offer his skills and experience for this unique Guitar Break event so book early to avoid disappointment. Sadly, the last two breaks that involved these three tutors meant some students were declined a place due to being fully subscribed. Book early so it doesn't happen to you!

During the weekend, there will be copious amounts of technique, theory and playing from tutors all rooted in real world applications. Of course, you've come to play too so there will be many chances for you to try out the new ideas in tutorial sessions and informal jam scenarios.

While there will be handouts given out, Guitar Break's policy of seeing what students want will make the day unique and well suited to dealing with your playing hurdles and aspirations!

Thanks again for your support of Dave!

Thank you for making Shore Thing acoustic in Bournemouth such a success!
Thanks to everyone who made their way down to Bournemouth's lovely Shore Acoustic cafe for two days of wonderful music and food at the South Coast of England. Dave and Murray played a mix of favorites during their four sets and even tried out a new tune or two! Some folks travel quite a bit just to get a chance to see the two strut their stuff :o))

Great News! Dave Joins Wetton-Downes' iCon project for Third Studio Album and Tour!
We're pleased to announce that Dave will be reuniting with bass player/vocalist extraordinaire John Wetton and incredible drummer Pete Riley for the new Wetton-Downes' iCon project. This will mark the first time Dave has worked with keyboard wizard Geoffrey Downes and Cellist Hugh McDowell, whose trademark sound characterised all of the Electric Light Orchestra's popular work.

Dave has played many times with John Wetton as part of the John Wetton Band, and also (along with Asia/ELP drummer Carl Palmer) in the highly acclaimed band Qango.

Dave has also toured extensively with Pete Riley; first with (Uriah Heep's) Ken Hensley, and then later as part of the Keith Emerson Band... Pete also added his unique brand of rhythmic innovation on Dave's solo album 'Scarlet'... :O)

John Wetton and Geoff Downes have just finished a highly successful global tour as part of the Reunion of the Original Members of Asia, and also produced a best selling album of all-new memorable classics, Phoenix, as part of that band. John and Geoff's song writing formed much of the fabric of Asia's work; this album marks their third iCon studio project.

Dave has just returned from a two year world wide tour on guitar and lead vocals with Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon project, playing to millions of fans. He has also embarked on a partnership of acoustic guitar and vocals with singer Murray Hockridge, whose extraordinary voice spans more than three octaves. The blend of intricate guitar and soaring vocals is hailed by fans and critics alike.

This third iCon studio album will be recorded in fourth quarter 08, with a release and tour to follow in early 2009.

New Website, Dave and Murray Summer Series in Peterborough, Surprise Solo Set, Dave's Blog begins Anew, and November Guitar Break!

Lots has been happening since the last newsletter.
The Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon Tour finished its most recent leg with a well-received show in St. Petersburg and Dave and all the band are sad to see the show stop for the moment. This particular tour was quite short, only eleven shows, but fans were enthusiastic as ever and the warmth you showed was greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Dave looks forward to seeing you all again!

Murray Hockridge and Dave Kilminster Summer Chillout Series at the Riva - June 29th
In the meantime, Dave has been keeping busy. Many of you have taken the opportunity to see Dave play with Murray Hockridge at the Riva in Peterborough. The Riva is hosting Dave and Murray as part of a summer series. Shows have also taken place in Bournemouth (two more are scheduled there!) and in Germany and it is lovely to see what a tremendous following the two have gotten in such a short time. The lovely and legendary Sue Marchant welcomed the pair on her BBC show; many of you listened around the world. You can see pictures now on Dave's myspace page (www.myspace.com/davekilminster) and soon they will be posted on Dave's website as well (www.davekilminster.com). The duo next play at the Riva on 29th of June. You can learn how to get there and get the full series of Riva Chillout dates on Dave's website by clicking here. Photos and videos will be coming soon!

Dave Surprises Mostly Autumn Fans with Unannounced Solo Opener at the Brook
Fans of Mostly Autumn were stunned and thrilled to find Dave onstage as the opening act at the Brook on the 29th of May. The event was arranged last minute and completely unannounced. It was a tremendous treat for those at the show to see the guitarist that many had just seen playing in front of thousands onstage at the 02 Arena in London with Roger Waters in such an intimate setting. You can learn how it happened and see exclusive photos!

Dave's Blog begins Anew!
With the discussion of the Mostly Autumn Show at the Brook, Dave again begins his blog. The blog has been sorely missed by those of you who enjoyed Dave's personal perspective and humor on his professional life. He's taken the time to write a blog entry on the Brook and with it, he will again jot down the occasional entry for you. The blog is on the website at www.davekilminster.com/diaries. Photos will be uploaded to the site soon (the photo blog and gallery are still in programming) but are already uploaded to Dave's myspace site under pictures. You'll see an album labeled Dave's Surprise Solo Show. These fabulous shots were taken by the lovely and talented Anne-Marie Helder who is also a featured player in Mostly Autumn.

Dave to be Guest Instructor at November Guitar Break!
Dave has long been a popular instructor at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guilford; he gets frequent requests for individual lessons. Unfortunately, Dave's been touring and performing non-stop for the past two years and the schedule hasn't allowed for regular teaching. He hasn't been able to teach at the ACM during that time - his students miss him!

Last year, Dave took a quick break from performing and spent a weekend as a featured instructor for Guitar Break. The students who had the chance to experience his teaching and playing in this intimate setting were thrilled.

Dave is pleased to announce that he will be joining his friends at Guitar Break once again this year as a guest instructor on November 1st and 2nd in Northampton. Few details are available at this early date, but you can learn more at www.guitarbreak.com. No details of the event have yet been posted but you can reserve your place by calling 0845 458 7372 or emailing mail@guitarbreak.com. We'll be sure to keep you posted at www.davekilminster.com.

New Look Website
We let you know in the last newsletter that Dave would have a new look website! The website is up and running, although parts of the site are still "under construction". We are sorry to see Faith Cowling, the webmaster who began and maintained Dave's site for the first five years, leave; you can still contact her at her own website: www.rocknrollembassy.com. She is a great resource for guitar lessons if you are in the UK. Going forward, Dave's site is designed and maintained by Kahuna Graphics' Roz Marchetti and Pete Smith who are also responsible for Dave's myspace site. Please come by, check out the new site www.davekilminster.com and sign the guest book. Let us know if you find any "dead links" or have any problems or issues - we are still debugging.

Dave's albums are still available on the site, too! Scarlet, Playing with Fire and Cosmogenic are all in stock. If you have any problems with the shopping cart, please simply email shop@davekilminster.com and we will resolve them for you as quickly as possible.

Thanks as always for supporting Dave! The first half of the year has been wonderful and we have some great surprises ahead for the second half. None of it would be possible without you.

Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon Tour Returns to the UK
After successful dates in the US and Europe and a wonderfully warm reception from fans familiar and new in California, Colorado, Texas, Spain, Holland, and Denmark, the band makes its way back to the UK for three dates. Liverpool was fabulous and all look forward to two exciting dates at London's O2 Arena. Thanks for making this tour so exciting. It has been great to meet you all. Meeting up again with old friends and making new ones is always one of the most rewarding parts of any tour, along with the enthusiasm for the playing and the music. We appreciate your energy and passion for the music and the show and it infuses and invigorates the players on the stage.

New Gear
Many of you may have noticed that with this tour of Dark Side of the Moon that Dave is using a completely different set up. He has changed over everything. Guitars have been made for him by Suhr (one has a personalized design front and back) to his specifications. Acoustics have been provided by Martin. New State of the Art Cornford Stacks replace the ones that were there before and a whole new pedal board has been constructed. Pictures and further descriptions will be on Dave's website soon! Watch for them.

Murray Hockridge and Dave Kilminster
Many of you have become fans of Dave's work with Murray Hockridge, an amazing singer whose soulful voice spans three octaves. Their partnership is in its early stages, but the early videos we've been able to share with you have met with amazing excitement. Many of you have asked questions about the songs, particularly about the latest one posted, C21 lovesong. So, we offer an explanation, below. Be sure to look for a new video next week, along with some commentary from Dave and Murray. In the meantime, here's some more on C21 Lovesong:

Dave Kilminster and Murray Hockridge - C21 Lovesong
The response to the latest Murray Hockridge and Dave Kilminster video C21 Lovesong has been spectacular and we thank you.

One question has been asked repeatedly: what DOES that title mean?

Murray Hockridge explains that C21 actually is an abbreviation for 21st Century Lovesong.

Penned originally just before the millennium by Murray and his brother Steve, Murray says "Like I Loved You for 2000 Years" tipped the hat to the turn of the millennium but the song has a quality that stands independently from that particular moment in time."

When Murray and Dave began their musical partnership, Murray continues, "I decided to revisit the song acoustically. We dropped it down in key for a richer sounding vocal and with a simple guitar arrangement augmented by Dave's inversions and embellishments, the song feels completely new and fresh."

Here are lyrics, for the many who've requested them:

C21 Lovesong

If I'm getting you right, I don't need to be more than myself
and I get you right

Have you been here before? What I get is so much more like second sight...you and I...

We were naked here, our true colours loud and clear
We were time and space before like this
I feel like I've gone everywhere you're coming from
Like I've loved you for two thousand years

In the new of the dawn many celebrate and leave unsung, but I
hear your song

When you wrote it before, I was keeping time, I read the score
now I play it all

And I am naked here, my true colours loud and clear
We were time and space before like this
I feel like I've gone everywhere you're coming from
Like I've loved you for two thousand years

Non believers can never know
Save their best and throw their sticks and stones
Accidental or born to be
More than any other century...

We are naked...

A sad farewell
On a sad note, we bid a great big thank you and a very sad and fond farewell to Dave's longterm webmaster Faith Cowling, who becomes Dave's webmaster emerita on May 31st. She may well help us with one last newsletter - we hope so!!! Faith and her company, Rock 'n' Roll Embassy, were instrumental in bringing up Dave's website for the first time and she is responsible for all the designs and permutations for the first five years that Dave's site has been up. Her design skills, insights, innovative ideas, and musical sensibility have helped www.davekilminster.com grow into a well-trafficked, well-designed and informative site and we hope to continue to expand and build on the solid groundwork that she so carefully has laid out. Please remember to checkout www.rocknrollembassy.com periodically. Faith continues to design websites for a variety of companies, music related and not, and she also runs a music school - if you are in the UK and interested in guitar lessons, she is someone you definitely want to know!

For more on any of these topics, or to purchase one of Dave's albums, please feel free to go to www.davekilminster.com. We are looking forward to getting your feedback on the new look website when it goes up in June.

Thanks again for supporting Dave!

We'll be bringing you details over the next couple of newsletters!! The first time anyone will see the new set up in performance will be in Coachella. It features new custom made electric guitars by Suhr, some fabulous Martin acoustics, a brand new, state of the art Cornford Amp set up and some cool new effects pedals...

Thank you for your support of Dave and Murray Hockridge!!!
Just before leaving for the States, Dave and singer Murray Hockridge performed for an enthusiastic audience in Bournemouth. This exciting musical project has been exploring some new creative ground and fans have been warmly enthusiastic as they share in the fun that the two have onstage. And we will be sharing some bits and pieces from that show and announcing more from the duo soon! Watch this space!! Murray is an extraordinary singer whose warm, soulful voice spans over three octaves!! Mix that with Dave's guitar and voice, and the combination is truly amazing!!

On a Sad Note...
Brian Davison, drummer of the Nice, died last week. Dave played with Brian on the tour which produced the live album Vivacitas - a reunion of the Nice which also spawned the Keith Emerson band. Brian touched everyone he came in contact with - musicians and fans alike - and we join his family and friends in mourning his passing. You can find a touching tribute to him on Keith Emerson's website at www.keithemerson.com.

Coming soon - new gig with Murray Hockridge April 11th and ten new shows for the Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon Tour!!
It's been a while since we've been in touch, but that's because Dave has been keeping busy in preparation for giving you an exciting 2008. The year has kicked off with a new musical collaboration with singer Murray Hockridge.

Dave plays with Murray Hockridge - Friday 11th April at 8pm in Bournemouth
Before he departs for his tour with Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon, Dave is pleased to announce that he will be playing at 8pm in Bournemouth with singer Murray Hockridge on April 11th.

You can find all the details about the venue and how to get there at: www.shorethingacoustic.co.uk

Murray Hockridge is an extraordinary singer whose collaboration with Dave began in 2007. He is a unique blend of soul singer, acoustic guitarist, and percussionist, whose outstanding voice can soar three octaves or more in the space of just one song.- from rich warm depths to the very sweetest of highs.

Critics have struggled to categorise Murray's voice but have likened him to singers as diverse as Smokey Robinson, Prince, Sting and Art Garfunkel. Come check him out and tell us what you think!

We think his sound is unique and, combined with Dave's guitar it is not only indescribable, but brings music to new heights. Murray and Dave have enjoyed the beginning of this musical journey and look forward to you joining them. :O)

Murray and Dave have been well received as a duo and have spent the past several months exploring new musical territory with guitar and vocals, finding a creative synergy that energises and excites both the performers and the crowds that flock to see them. The act is still in its very early stages and each performance brings with it new opportunities for musical surprises! We know those of you in the area will welcome the opportunity to see Murray and Dave in this acoustic arena and will enjoy the evening you spend with them as much as they do playing for you! We look forward to seeing you there!

Ten New Dark Side of the Moon Shows with Roger Waters!!!
The Dark Side of the Moon tour was so popular and well-received, that the band agreed to reunite for ten shows beginning in the US and ending in London at the O2 Arena.

Dave has revamped all of his gear for this tour and we look forward to sharing the changes with you in future newsletters, as well as bringing you other surprises, both from the shows with Murray and Roger and from other secret projects.
